Reel-to-reel hub adapters, commonly known as NAB adapters, enable mounting of large 10.5-inch tapes on reel-to-reel machines with standard "trident" spindles. 

They securely attach to the spindle, creating a broader base with a clutch system that firmly holds the larger reel, ensuring consistent rotation and stable tape tension during playback and recording.
